Miss Michelle invented this activity and I had actual hearts in my eyes when I saw this for the first time! It connects all of the most wonderful things: paint, being outside, letter identification, worksheet-free sight word practice, pre-reading skills, messiness, play, and fun!
MATERIALS
- Letter Stamps
- Paint
- Shallow Trays
- 12” x 18” Paper
- Easel (Optional)
- Sentence Strips (White notecards would also suffice!)
- Black Marker
- Tape
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS
- Write about 10 sight words on the sentence strip in a black marker, cut out, and tape to your easel (or spread around a table if you’re not using an easel).
- Spread paint in shallow trays and add the letter stamps. Invite children to find the letters that make up each word and to stamp the words on the easel working from left to right.
- Note: you don’t have to do sight words! Change with vocabulary words, spelling words, students’ names, etc.
