No preschool year is complete without some Eric Carle, amiright? His playful colors and dainty illustrations are swoon-worthy. His actual art technique of painting tissues + making collage is a fun process in and of itself but finding projects to modify his process for the younger folk are ones we always love, too.
MATERIALS
-
Paint (Yellow, Green, Red)
-
Sentence Strips (or you can use paper)
-
Shallow Bowls (those exact bowls are discontinued but here is a similar-ish set)
-
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” book (optional)
DIRECTIONS
-
Squirt both green and yellow paint into a shallow bowl. As you squirt them in overlap them (see photo) so the colors are touching all over.
-
Invite the child to gingerly dip their sponge stamper into the bowl of paint and then stamp onto their paper. You can make 1-3 stamps on the paper for each dip into the paint.
-
Add a red stamp for the caterpillar’s face and googly eyes.
