Stir up some fun with this bubbling witch cauldron craft

I LOVE a cauldron craft (they feel so magical) and this is one of the best cauldron crafts I have ever seen!

I first saw this activity from Learning and Exploring Through Play and it was an immediate save-and-have-to-do-as-soon-as-possible.

IT! BUBBLES!! Actual, literal, real, physical, poppable bubbles.

It’s everything and more and you have to try this project.

Bubble, bubble, toil, and trouble…why this witch cauldron craft is a must-try

This easy cauldron craft will have your little witches and wizards stamping paint bubbles that look just like a magical brew boiling over.

This is as close to magical art as it gets.

The best part? They get to pop the bubbles as they dry—or leave them to burst on their own for a cool texture!

It’s a witchy craft for kids that will leave them spellbound.

Bottles of Crayola washable green paint and Mrs. Meyer’s Apple Cider Scent dish soap, both used in the bubbling witch cauldron craft to create a foamy, bubbly effect with the paint.

Directions

  1. Either draw or cut out a cauldron shape from paper.
  2. In small bowls, mix paint, a splash of water, and a small squirt of dish soap.
  3. Cut a paper towel tube into smaller pieces—about 2 inches tall—and place one piece in each bowl of paint.
  4. Lift the paper tube from the paint and stamp it above the cauldron shape on your paper. When you lift the tube, you’ll see a bubble on your paper!
  5. Repeat stamping with different colors, letting the paint bubbles form.
  6. Watch the bubbles pop on their own, or gently pop them with their fingers for extra fun.

Why bubbles pop (and why it’s fun!)

Did you know that bubbles pop when their outer layer dries out?

That’s why your little one’s soapy bubbles burst after a few moments—unless, of course, they pop them first!

This adds a sensory element to the craft, letting kids explore texture, sight, and sound all in one go.

Just watch their faces light up as their potion pops to life!

Three small bowls filled with purple and green paint mixed with soap, with pieces of paper towel tubes in each bowl, ready to be used for stamping the bubbles in the craft.

More fun bubble facts for curious kids

Let’s make this craft even more magical with some fun bubble trivia:

  • Bubbles are made of water, air, and soap.
  • A bubble’s shape is always a sphere—even if you try to make it square.
  • When you blow a bubble, you are trapping air inside a layer of soap and water.
  • Bubbles reflect light and can show all the colors of the rainbow.
  • Big bubbles need more water to stay strong.
  • Tiny bubbles usually pop faster than larger ones.
  • You can make bubbles last longer by adding more soap to the mixture.
  • A bubble’s rainbow colors are caused by light reflecting off the layers of soap.

How to clean up your bubbling witch cauldron craft mess

Crafting can get a bit wild, especially when there are bubbles involved! But cleaning up afterward doesn’t have to be a struggle.

To clean up:

  • Simply rinse out the bowls and paper towel tubes with warm water.
  • Let your stamped papers dry completely before putting them away.
  • For any paint splashes, a quick wipe with a damp cloth should do the trick.

  • Spider Play Dough: Make creepy-crawly spiders with homemade play dough.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use food coloring instead of paint?

You can, but the colors may not be as vibrant.

Can I pop the bubbles immediately?

Most bubbles will pop within a few minutes, but you can speed it up by gently pressing them.

What kind of paint should I use?

Any washable kids’ paint works great for this project.
