Say hello to the cutest flower giant coloring poster

Flowers are (and have always been) my favorite thing to draw.

If you find a piece of paper in my home, there’s a 93% chance that I have doodled flowers somewhere on it.

Whenever I take art classes, I almost always end up painting a flower. I simply cannot resist!

SO, when it was time to draw this giant coloring poster, I had the time of my life.

A group of children, seated and standing, work together to color a large spring-themed flower coloring banner that covers an entire table. The black-and-white poster features playful flower shapes, smiling sunflowers, tulips, butterflies, and bees. The kids are using different shades of markers, and many of the floral sections have already been filled in with bright, saturated colors. Cups of markers are spread throughout the table.

What kids are learning as they color

Coloring may look simple, but it’s doing so much behind the scenes.

Kids are developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creative decision-making.

They’re also practicing collaboration if they’re working together on the same giant coloring page.

Add in some flower vocabulary and you’ve got a full-on preschool learning experience overflowing with fun.

The designs feature large, smiling sunflowers, stylized tulips, and symmetrical floral patterns. The coloring is bold and vibrant, with shades of red, purple, yellow, and orange, and cups of markers appear in two of the panels. A cartoon bee and swirly rose patterns are also visible.

How to use a flower giant coloring banner

  1. Unroll your flower giant coloring poster and decide where you want to set it up—floor, wall, or table (we use them both indoors and outdoors!).
  2. Set out your coloring supplies and invite kids to jump right in.
  3. Let kids explore the banner however they’d like—there’s no right or wrong way to color a garden.
  4. When you’re finished, leave it up as a cheerful decoration.

The section of the banner includes leafy stems and various outlined flowers, one of which is nearly completed in shades of blue, red, and green. A nearby marker cup holds a wide variety of Crayola markers.

Adapting for kids of all ages

Older kids might enjoy adding patterns to the flowers or turning the petals into tiny scenes of their own.

Younger preschoolers might prefer using dot markers or large crayons for easier grip and coloring.

Because this flower poster usually lasts for days and days of fun, we love switching up the art supplies offered during the week.

For example:

Monday & Tuesday – markers

Wednesday & Thursday – watercolors

Friday – tempera sticks

Obviously, you pick whatever supplies you have and love, and sometimes just changing out an art supply makes it feel like an entirely new activity.

Two young girls, smiling at the camera, sit side by side at a table covered in a flower-themed coloring banner. The room is decorated with artificial tulips and flower garlands in the background. Multiple containers of colorful markers are set on the table, and the banner features a variety of whimsical flower illustrations and cartoon faces.

Conversation starters to use while coloring the giant Spring coloring poster

Want to sneak in a little language development while the kids are busy with their coloring banner?

Try asking open-ended questions like:

  • “Which flower is your favorite, and why?”
  • “What would this garden smell like?”
  • “If you could plant any magical flower, what would it do?”
  • “What colors do you see in real-life flowers?”
  • “Can you count how many petals are on that flower?”
  • “Have you ever grown flowers before?”

These questions help kids think critically, describe their thoughts, and make personal connections to the activity.

When the poster is finished, the fun doesn’t have to end!

  • Cut out individual flowers to turn into spring cards or decorations.
  • Snap photos of your finished coloring banner and print them to make a mini “spring garden” gallery wall.
  • Bring in other spring activities like flower painting or gardening-themed sensory bins for a full-on flower unit.
  • Save the finished poster and use it as homemade wrapping paper.
