Fall is in the air, and it’s the perfect time to make pumpkin spice play dough! With warm, cozy Fall smells, this will be a new favorite to make every year.

Welcome Fall with pumpkin spice play dough

Some of the very best things about Fall are the delicious smells.

And even if you don’t love a pumpkin spice latte, you’ll love pumpkin spice play dough because it smells like heaven.

You don’t have to buy anything fancy, but instead, you can mix and match with whatever spices you already have on your spice rack.

In the palm of a hand are cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice.

Pumpkin spice play dough is a delight for the senses

When kids are playing with this glorious dough, they’re using their sense of:

  • Touch when molding and playing
  • Smell when enjoying the spices cooked in
  • Sight by measuring ingredients and playing
  • Sound when cooking and playing

Play dough is a multi-sensory experience, and no matter how many times we make it, we can never get enough.

The ingredients needed: flour, salt, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, vegetable oil, orange coloring, and spatula.

Directions

To make your play dough ready for Fall, add spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, or cloves (recipe and directions for making dough).

I add the spices with all of the other ingredients when I’m making a fresh batch of play dough.

Do not worry about measuring your spices as this is a measure with your heart kind of thing.

If you’re using premade play dough, you could try kneading some spices in (I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work wonderfully!).

Once your dough is ready to rock and roll, provide your kids with googly eyes and pipe cleaners to make fun little pumpkins.

What do you do with pumpkin spice play dough?

Play dough is the kind of activity where you can make it as simple or as elaborate as you want.

Keeping it simple

  • Provide your child with the dough + basic dough supplies such as a rolling pin or cookie cutters

More is more

  • Add mini pie tins for kids to make mini pretend pies (cotton balls for whipped cream would be adorable, too)
  • Add fall materials such as leaves, twigs, and mini pumpkins
  • Add small cups for your child to make pretend pumpkin spice lattes (oh, my gosh, so cute!)
  • Make lots of pumpkins for a mini “pumpkin patch”

What else did we miss? There are so many ways to use this dough!

How to clean and store pumpkin spice play dough

At the end of play, invite your child to deconstruct their creations so they’re ready to use again another day.

Play dough can last for quite some time when stored in an airtight container, so you can play with your pumpkin spice play dough over and over again.

FAQ

What age is this recommended for?

Any that can safely use the ingredients and materials.

I don’t have orange dye – what do I do?

You can mix yellow and red together to make orange!

What do I do if my child has an allergy to one of the spices?

ONLY use spices that are safe for your child. If they have an allergy to all, simply omit spices.
