If you have never made frosting dough, you are in for a TREAT! Halloween frosting dough only needs two ingredients, and your kids will be DAZZLED.

A green batch of Halloween frosting dough sits on a purple table with powdered sugar dusted around. Behind the dough sits a ghost cookie cutter and a container of green funfetti frosting.

Halloween frosting dough is a tradition around here

Once you make it, it will be a tradition for you, too!

  • It’s neon green
  • There are eyeball sprinkles
  • It smells aaaaaamazing
  • It’s taste-safe
  • It’s silky smooth

What. Is. Not. To. Love?!

Spooky season just got a whole lot sweeter with Halloween Frosting Dough

I’ve made this with three-year-olds and 12-year-olds (and 61-year-olds), and everyone loves it.

As an added bonus, you can store and keep it for several days for extra fun and playing.

It’s also impossible to translate on screen, but this ✨smells incredible! ✨

  • Halloween Frosting  – The price fluctuates on Amazon during Fall, but it’s always around $2 at Target
  • Powdered sugar
  • Mixing bowl + spoon OR stand-mixer
Three photos: (1) A spatula holds a large chunk of neon green frosting in front of a mixer, (2) a measuring cup is filled with powdered sugar in front of a mixer, (3) the mixer has green Halloween frosting dough inside with some in the bowl and some on the paddle.

Directions

Making the dough is such fun.

Recipe: Mix 1 part frosting to 2 parts powdered sugar.

I have found that making frosting dough in a stand mixer makes it much faster and easier. So, give it a try if you have one!

It will make a dough, and it’s honestly unbelievably smooth and silky.

(And did I mention that it smells soooooo goooood?)

The lid of the frosting container is turned over and holds the black + purple spinkles and eyeball candies.

Troubleshooting

MY DOUGH IS TOO DRY: Add more frosting.

MY DOUGH IS TOO WET: Add more powdered sugar.

THIS IS TOO FUN: I know, I’ve been there. You can double (or triple) your batch next time!

What do kids do with Halloween frosting dough?

It looks and works like play dough.

You can add in your favorite play dough toys such as:

  • Rolling pins
  • Cookie cutters
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Halloween toys
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Pom poms
  • Play dough kits (these Melissa & Doug play dough kits are my FAVORITE)
Neon green dough is spread into a large circle and is is being pressed with fingerprints.

You can make frosting dough all year ‘round

And good news: other seasonal frostings come out during the year, too.

Whenever I go to Target during the holidays, I check to see if they have seasonal frosting for more frosting dough (I have found Christmas, Winter, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Spring, and Summer).

This makes for an adorable gift for friends and family!

A little tub of frosting + a bag of powdered sugar, and for less than $5, it’s a complete activity for people to do with kids.

FAQ

What age is this activity recommended for?

Any that can safely enjoy the materials!

How long does Halloween frosting dough last?

We have kept ours for a little over a week before. Store it in a zippered bag to prolong its life. I also sometimes leave mine in the refrigerator.

How long does it take to make?

Minutes! It comes together quickly. Making it in a stand mixer makes it come together even faster.

Halloween frosting dough is “sense-ational” fun

The first time I saw frosting dough, I was instantly hooked.

I can’t wait to hear what you think, too.

Have fun!
