Discover the Best Art Supplies for Coloring Pages

Coloring pages are a staple in any creative space, but using the same old crayons can get a little, well, colorless.

That’s why I’m (so!) (super!) excited to share my top 10 favorite art supplies that will make your coloring pages pop, sizzle, and sparkle!

Over the years, we have tested countless art supplies with hundreds of kids and these supplies are our best and brightest picks.

Crayola Education Watercolors

These are the best watercolors on the market. They’re vibrant, colorful, creamy, and absolutely gorgeous. They’re an outside-of-the-box art supply for coloring pages AND other art, landing them at my number one favorite art supply for kids.

Oil Pastels

Oil pastels + watercolors = *chef’s kiss* Oil pastels are kind of like crayons, but they’re bolder, thicker, creamier, and give off waaay more color. Drawing with these then painting over with watercolors is gorgeous.

The Best Set of Markers

Crayola markers are the best, and this GIANT set of 40 (!!!) markers is one of my most loved, most used, most repurchased art supplies. The colors you get in this set are simply nothing short of fabulous (and the color Kiwi is drool-worthy).

Huge Tub of Crayons

This set of 240 crayons is a blast, and the fact that it comes with its own storage case makes it even better. Kids will love having an assortment of fun, uncommon colors to bring their coloring pages to life.

A box of twistable crayons by Crayola

Twistable Crayons

Twistable crayons are pure fun! These are wonderful for young artists as these crayons are less likely to snap since they’re in a plastic handle. Even though these are crayons – the presentation will make them feel like a totally new art supply.

Mr. Sketch Scented Markers

Do you remember coloring with these as a kid? They are JUST as spectacular as you remember! Kids love smelling these fun markers as they color, and as I teacher, I love the bonus sensory layer. Apple, watermelon, grape, cherry…yum!

Tempera Cakes

Tempera cakes are like watercolors…but they’re giant! These will last forever giving you big bang for your buck. You use them exactly the same way as watercolors and kids will be dazzled by their size.

Watercolor Crayons

You are in for a TREAT! First, you use these just like you would crayons and color in your picture. Then, you go over with a paintbrush dipped in water and your drawing transforms into a watercolor painting right before your eyes.

A package of thin tempera sticks by Kwik Stix

Thin Tempera Sticks

Tempera sticks are one of the coolest art supplies ever, but they’re normally wide and chunky and too large for coloring pages. This special size of narrow tempera sticks makes them ideal for coloring pages. If you haven’t used these before – just imagine drawing with lipstick.

Tracing Paper

Tracing paper + permanent markers = HOURS OF FUN! It’s actually hard to put into words just how much kids love tracing coloring pages (which makes my teacher heart sing because this is loads of fine-motor and pre-writing skill practice).
